Volar - behind this pseudonym hides a German artist who was born in 1966. Working without any promotion and purely from his own drive, vision, considerable talent, and artistic ambition, he found his way as a sculptor. All of this achieved without the help of the official art scene.
Volars creative beginnings date back to the eightees. Autodidactically he prefers to deal with different, sculptural possibilities of creation. Developing freely structured potteries, in which his creativity and will of shape crystalized itself for the first time. He found a further inspiration in the creation of jewellery, which gave him - although not comparable with the dimensions of his current work - important inspirations for his sculptural development. He was intensively occupied with the materials he processed - high-grade steel and nobel stones. Soon his special interest applied to the grown stone, to which he remains faithful to this day. The mental and figurative structures of the stone, the organic features, its character and its hidden energy which denotes life from a thousand of years ago, its inherent magic is part of the fascination, which Volar tried to get to the bottom of, to which he tries to give space and shape in his work.
The irreverence is remarkable, that Volar places on the self selected artistic calling. Self-confidently he is convinced of his path, and acknowledges the various setbacks and privations he has encountered with acceptance. One of the unusual personality traits of the artist, who pursues his goal with the necessary obsession and self-discipline for the profession. The available result speaks both in quality and in quantity for the artist.
The literal meaning of "Volar" is to fly, it is also a symbol for departure, for overcoming distances, and is considered the outbreak from narrowness and provincialisation. Volar has a dream, he sees his large sculptures in the midst of the urbane architecture landscapes of the metropolises of the world, at the well-known places in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Paris ...
I am full of conviction that this dream will come true.
